Profile:
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is made up of 7 states, the most prominent of which are Dubai (which many people incorrectly think is a country in itself), Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and is ruled by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Makhtoum. The country's Free Trade Zones - offering 100% foreign ownership and zero taxes - are helping to attract foreign investment. Higher oil revenue, strong liquidity, extensive residential and commercial construction and cheap credit mean fantastic asset prices (shares and real estate). The UAE strategic plan for the next few years focuses on diversification and creating more opportunities for nationals through improved education and increased private sector employment. There is a huge expatriate population in the UAE and it accounts for well over half the entire population.
